An elderly man has died after police say he was struck by an electric bike rider in the Amsterdam Avenue bike lane earlier this month — highlighting a lack of safe infrastructure and a culture that caters more to vehicles than the safety of pedestrians and cyclists.

The City Council will close the gap of leadership exhibited by the de Blasio administration on making permanent the open streets program — mandating more open streets, allowing for their conversion into 24-7 car-free zones and ensuring that they are equitably distributed.
